The Bilstein B6 High Performance Struts and Shocks are Bilstein's premium shock for the Syncro.  In following the lead of the VW factory, the shock is offered in two different versions: one valved for the 14" Syncros and one valved for the 16" Syncros, with it's heavier wheels and off-road bias.  Bilstein is the only manufacturer that honors VW's true specs for valving for the Syncros.  

The B6 are well built, heavy duty and feature the high pressure monotube design that Bilstein pioneered.  These shocks really shine in rough off-road use over large bumps where you really need effective compression damping. They are decent on washboard (never fun) and great on typical desert and mountain dirt roads.  They also perform well on the pavement.

We have tested these shocks extensively on a cross-country trip that involved thousands of highway and secondary road miles, and over 500 miles of off road travel, including washboard, sand dunes, large bumps and rough desert dirt roads.  They performed beautifully.  We believe they are the best off-the-shelf shock available for the Syncros and offer the best bang for the buck for those wanting optimal performanmce.

Note that there is a bit of a break in period during which the shocks are slightly stiff - but they soften up after a few hundred  miles.
