Moses Lake, WA
Head on over to McCosh Park in Moses Lake WA (a 175 mile drive from Seattle) for a free bluegrass and camping event sponsored by the Moses Lake Parks and Rec Department.
For the music schedule etc see http://fivesunsbluegrass.com/
We were warmly welcomed and given a tour of the site by Spencer Grigg, the head of Parks - who is a fan of VW vans.
The surrounding area has flat biking paths, a lake for your kayak, shade trees in the park and concert area across from the campsite, and a farmers market on Saturday. This is a small, friendly festival with attendance in the 600 person range. There are free showers every morning in the school next to the field. Several bathrooms are in the park and in the school.
The warm weather will allow you to visit the “Water Park” operated by Parks & Rec. see http://tourgrantcounty.com/surf-n-slide-water-park...
The camping area is an open grassy athletic practice area loaned to the Parks by the Moses Lake School District. A special “VW Village” area will be set aside so VW campers can park together. Upon entering the field thru the gate (attendant can give directions) head to the right across the grass to the far end and look for the VW Vans to your right in front of the gold colored structure which is across the fence at the football stadium. We will park in 2 rows one along the fence and a second row allowing space to come and go. Park facing uphill (pointed to the west) as you pull to the fence. This will allow canopies to be on the north side of the vans – away from the sun. Bring wheel shims for sloped lawn AGAIN - IMPORTANT – BRING LEVELING BLOCKS – THE FIELD HAS A SLIGHT BUT NOTICEABLE SLOPE
No wood fires are allowed in this area, but a large charcoal grill is at the shelter across the street and will be available for the Potluck / grilling/ marshmallows.
Directions: Take I-95 exit 176 North on W Lakeshore/ W Broadway for 2.4 miles. Turn Right on Dogwood St. Cross 3rd Street driving past Frontier Middle School on your right and then just past the 4th Street (left hand road) Turn into the parking lot on your right for access thru the fence into the camping area on your left. Attendant should be there.
Hosts are Terry & Sharon Dalton AKA “Pancho and Lucy” email@example.com

Join us for what we hope is the Puget Sound version of the Wetwesties Reunion held 2 weeks later in Union OR. For much of the year Hood Canal is wet and grey, but late August is prime time for visiting this jewel of an area. If you can plan an extended trip you can take advantage of the Olympic National Park and the many recreational opportunities.
Dosewallips State Park is a 425-acre, year-round camping park with 5,500 feet of saltwater shoreline on Hood Canal and 5,400 feet of freshwater shoreline on either side of the Dosewallips River. The park is unique in that it offers both freshwater and saltwater activities. All camp areas are grassy and located in scenic, rustic settings.
We camp in Group Camp 1 (Meadow Camp) which is - as named - a large meadow that can accommodate up to 80 people - pitch tents or park RV on a large grass field. There is a big campfire pit, a covered eating area, several picnic tables and a barbeque. Water and primitive toilets are available. Flush toilets and hot showers are elsewhere in the park within walking distance. A trailhead and the Dosewallips River are easily accessible.
Distance from Seattle is 125 miles via the Tacoma Narrow Bridge, Port Orchard and then North over the Hood Canal Bridge - or - southwest to the southern tip of the Hood Canal. The shortest drive is via the Edmonds Ferry and is 68 miles over the Hood Canal Bridge. Portlanders have and easy 110 miles up I-5 to Olympia then another 62 miles along Highway 110 up the beautiful drive along Hood Canal. For Shelton, Port Orchard, Pt Townsend , etc this is in your back yard. With that in mind - I AM LOOKING FOR A LOCAL WHO CAN CO-HOST and be able to work with Park staff if needed beforehand.
Potluck is Saturday evening. As always bring firewood for the group campfire.
